10 Thursday: due EOC Sep 10 Thursday

  1. Review results of Exam over Chapter 1

  2. Intro comments and video (Powers of Ten)

  3. Complete the reading assignment from the text pages 51 – 52.

  4. Complete section 3.1 (pp B3&B4) of this unit’s study packet.

  5. And lastly for this assignment, conduct the activity known as
    LB1 Thinking Inside the Box. (Remember to make a copy so that you can fill
    out the missing portions and submit when finished).


9 Wednesday: due EOC Sep 9 Wednesday

  1. Exam over Chapter 1

  2. New packets (Unit B-C03) handed out .


8 Tuesday: due EOC Sep 8 Tuesday

  1. Review the reading expectations from Chapter 1 Sections 1-4, 

  2. Go through the packets to answer any questions whose answers are not clear

  3. Discuss the Skittles activity in class, and then complete a lab for it.

  4. Discuss the Careers activity and some of the responses, and then

  5. Have work time in preparation for tomorrow's exam over chapter 1.


4 Friday: Both A and B students (due BOC Sep 8 Tuesday)

  1. Review the answers to the previous day’s assignment section 1.4 (pp A14) of this unit’s study packet.

  2. Take a quiz over C01§4

  3. Finish and study the study packet and use it to study for Wednesday’s Exam.

  4. Read about chemistry careers, and choose two that you feel that you might really like to have for a career, and two that you would absolutely never want as a career.  Then for each career you chose (to like or dislike) write a short paragraph expressing what your preference was and why.  This can be done as a Google doc, or as an email, but either way each of the four paragraphs should contain expressions that make it clear that you read the selections.


3 Thursday: Both A and B students (due BOC Sep 4 Friday)

Review the answers to the previous day’s assignment section 1.3 (pp A10–A13) of this unit’s study packet.

  1. Take a quiz over C1§3.

  2. Complete the reading assignment from the text pages 19 – 22.

  3. And lastly for this assignment, complete section 1.4 (pp A14) of this unit’s study packet.

2 Wednesday: B students (due BOC Sep 3 Thursday)

  1. Student Safety Contracts turned in?

  2. Speculate about the number of skittles present in the box provided.

  3. In class, view the demonstration referred to as, “Flaming Bubbles”, and then go to the lab and conduct the activity known as “LA1 Bubble Trouble”


1 Tuesday: Both A and B students (due BOC Sep 2 Wednesday)

  1. Review and take a quiz over C1§2.

  2. Complete the reading assignment from the text for C1.3, (pages 15–17).

  3. And lastly for this assignment, complete section 1.3 (pp A10–A13) of this unit’s study packet.

  1. Work Day to catch up.  – Student Safety Contracts turned in?
    – Cake made, consumed, good observations made and turned in?
    – Chapter 1 section 1 of the text read and pages A4-5 of the unit's study packet    completed.
    – TQ C1§1 taken (and retaken ‘til the score is what you wish it to be)
    – Chapter 1 section 2 of the text read and pages A6-9 of the unit's study packet   completed.

28 Friday: Both A and B students (due BOC Aug 28 Friday)

  1. In class: Frost and eat the cake made in the previous class.

  2. Make observations about the cake's quality (in terms of what was good and did not need to be changed) as well as what was not good and could be improved. 

  3. Review the answers to the previous assignment...Section 1.1 (pp A4&A5) of this unit’s study packet.

  4. Review and take a quiz over C1§1.

27 Thursday: Both A and B students (due BOC Aug 28 Friday)

  1. In class, B-day students become acquainted with the materials present on the Clarksville Science web page and receive the Science Safety Contract (which is to be read, completed, signed by you and your parents, and returned to your science teacher by Thursday Sep 3, 2020)

  2. In class, B-day students get books and packets for the first unit.

  3. In class, B-day students make a cake.


26 Wednesday: Both A and B students (due BOC Aug 26 Thursday)

  1. In class: Frost and eat the cake made in the previous class.

  2. Make observations about the cake's quality (in terms of what was good and did not need to be changed) as well as what was not good and could be improved. 

  3. Review the answers to the previous day’s assignment section 1.1 (pp A4&A5) of this unit’s study packet.

  4. Complete the reading assignment from the text pages 7 – 14.

  5. And lastly for this assignment, complete section 1.2 (pp A6&A7) of this unit’s study packet.

25 Tuesday: Both A and B students (due BOC Aug 26 Wednesday)

  1. Review the pictures present in the last assigned reading (text pages 3 – 6).

  2. After being reminded that the pictures in the text are essential components to the reading assignment, and after noting the reason that the authors gave for putting a picture of a slice of cake amongst that picture set, go to the kitchen station in the classroom and work synergistically to mix and bake the cake whose ingredients & recipe were provided. 

  3. We would normally review  the answers to the previous day’s assignment section 1.1 (pp A4&A5) of this unit’s study packet next, but because of early out, that review will be given at the beginning of the next class.

24 Monday: Both A and B students (due BOC Aug 25 Tuesday)
